FAQ
What is the Investment Account?
The Investment Account lets you put your business cash to work directly from your Finom account. It provides access to institutional-grade Money Market Funds (MMFs) designed to offer liquidity, stability, and the potential for a variable return. You can invest, monitor your portfolio, track returns, and withdraw funds – all without additional platforms or paperwork. How does the Investment Account compare to the Interest Wallet?
Both products help you make better use of excess cash, but they work differently.
The Interest Wallet offers a promotional fixed rate followed by a variable interest rate, depending on your plan.
The Investment Account invests your cash in institutional-grade Money Market Funds, offering a potentially higher market-based return, daily liquidity, and professional fund management. Returns are variable and not guaranteed.
What are Money Market Funds (MMFs)?
Money Market Funds are professionally managed investment funds that invest in diversified, high-quality short-term financial instruments issued by governments, banks, and large institutions. They are widely used by businesses to manage excess cash while maintaining liquidity and aiming to generate a variable return. Are Money Market Funds risk-free?
Money Market Funds are considered one of the lower-risk ways to invest business cash, but they are not risk-free. We offer the BlackRock ICS Euro Liquidity Fund, one of the world's largest institutional Money Market Funds. MMFs are investment products, not bank deposits, so returns are not guaranteed and the value of your investment may fluctuate. Can I lose money?
Although MMFs are designed to preserve capital and minimize price fluctuations, like any investment they carry risk. In exceptional market conditions, you may receive less than the amount originally invested. Are my funds protected?
Your investments are held through regulated providers using segregated custody arrangements, keeping them separate from Finom's own assets in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements. As investment products, MMFs are not covered by deposit guarantee schemes. Can I access my money at any time?
Yes. You can redeem your investment whenever you need it. The Money Market Fund we offer operates on a T+0 settlement cycle, meaning transactions are settled on the same business day.How are returns generated?
MMFs earn returns by investing in high-quality short-term instruments such as government securities, bank deposits, and other money market assets. Returns are linked to market interest rates, so they can change over time and are not guaranteed. How is this different from a savings account?
A savings account is a bank deposit, while a Money Market Fund is an investment. Unlike bank deposits, MMFs are not covered by deposit guarantee schemes. Instead, they offer a professionally managed way to keep surplus business cash liquid while earning a variable return.Who manages my investments?
Your investments are held in the BlackRock ICS Euro Liquidity Fund, managed by BlackRock. Investment services are provided by Aksys, an EU-licensed, MiFID-regulated investment firm, while Finom provides access and portfolio management within your account. Are there any fees?
Any applicable fees are reflected before you invest, so you can clearly see the expected charges before making a decision. Are there any tax implications?
Investment returns may be subject to tax depending on your business's jurisdiction and local tax rules. You'll have access to clear investment statements to support your accounting. For tax advice, please consult your accountant or tax adviser.
